Blenko Glass and Dolly Parton Partnership Raises More Than $85,000 for Imagination Library

MILTON, W.Va. — A partnership celebrating the legacy of country music legend Dolly Parton has raised more than $85,000 for children's literacy through the sale of handcrafted glass made in West Virginia.

Blenko Glass Company presented a check for $85,259.89 to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of West Virginia on Thursday, October 8, following an overwhelming response to a special collection of glass suncatchers honoring the late singer and philanthropist.

The donation represents the largest charitable contribution in Blenko's history through its Glass for Good initiative and, according to program leadership, the largest private donation ever received by the Imagination Library's West Virginia program.

More than 6,000 handcrafted suncatchers were sold as part of the fundraiser, attracting customers from across the country and significantly exceeding the company's expectations.

The collection features two designs inspired by Parton's music and dedication to childhood literacy. The turquoise-colored "Books, Butterflies & Ballads" suncatcher includes images of a book, guitar and butterflies, while the citrine-colored "I Will Always Love You" design celebrates one of her most recognizable songs.

Each piece is handcrafted at Blenko's historic glassmaking facility in Milton, where generations of West Virginia artisans have produced decorative glass recognized around the world.

The success of the campaign has been especially significant for the company's Glass for Good program, which creates limited-edition glass pieces to benefit charitable organizations. While a typical campaign might sell approximately 500 pieces, the Dolly Parton collection has generated more than 6,000 sales, with purchases reported from at least 48 states.

The unprecedented demand has also kept Blenko's glassmakers busy producing additional pieces to fulfill orders.

The funds will benefit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of West Virginia, which provides free, age-appropriate books each month to registered children from birth through age five.

The program currently serves approximately 50,000 West Virginia children and families annually, helping build home libraries and encourage early reading habits.

Parton established the Imagination Library in 1995 in her home community in Tennessee. What began as a local effort to encourage children to read eventually expanded into an international literacy initiative, distributing millions of books to children across multiple countries.

Following Parton's death in August, Blenko developed the commemorative collection as a way to honor her contributions to music, philanthropy and childhood education while supporting an initiative with a lasting impact on West Virginia families.

Jamie Lima, state director of Dolly Parton's Imagination Library of West Virginia, participated in Thursday's check presentation at Blenko's historic Hot Shop, where she also had an opportunity to help stamp one of the commemorative glass pieces.

Although the presentation marked a record-breaking contribution, the fundraiser is not finished.

Blenko announced that it would extend sales of the commemorative collection through October 15, with a goal of raising $100,000 for the Imagination Library.

The effort brings together two recognizable Appalachian names, pairing West Virginia's longstanding glassmaking tradition with Parton's commitment to helping children discover a lifelong love of reading.

Additional information about the commemorative collection is available at Blenko Glass, while families interested in enrolling children in the literacy program can visit Dolly Parton's Imagination Library.
