WVU President Michael Benson Visits Antero Rig Site in Harrison County

West Virginia University President Michael Benson recently visited an Antero Resources drilling site near Lost Creek in Harrison County for an up close look at one of the industries helping drive West Virginia’s economy and energy future.

Benson toured the active rig site and met with employees and leadership to learn more about the natural gas production process taking place in North Central West Virginia.

The visit provided a firsthand look at the scale of operations involved in developing the Marcellus Shale and highlighted the role the energy industry continues to play in supporting jobs, economic growth, and energy production across the state.

In a social media post following the visit, Antero said the company was “thrilled to welcome” President Benson to Harrison County and showcase how natural gas produced in West Virginia is helping power homes and businesses both across the country and around the world.

Photos shared from the tour showed Benson alongside Antero employees at the drilling site near Lost Creek, with the towering rig serving as the backdrop for the visit.

The tour also comes as WVU continues to strengthen partnerships with industries throughout West Virginia under Benson’s leadership, with workforce development and economic opportunity remaining major areas of focus.
