Volunteers Needed This Week as Lewis County Flood Relief Efforts Continue
WESTON, W.Va. —The Lewis County Family Resource Network is seeking volunteers throughout the week as flood recovery efforts continue in Weston and surrounding communities.
Volunteers are needed at the Market Place Mall Flood Relief Distribution Center and to assist the Lewis County Senior Center with Meals on Wheels deliveries.
Additional help is especially needed Monday, Aug. 3, as flood relief supplies are moved from the West Virginia Wesleyan College distribution site in Upshur County to the Market Place Mall location.
Volunteers will help unload, rearrange, sort and organize the incoming supplies before they are distributed to families affected by the recent flooding.
Those volunteering at the distribution center should register in advance and report to the volunteer table between 8:45 a.m. and 5 p.m. on their selected day. Volunteers interested in delivering Meals on Wheels will be contacted with additional instructions.
Registration takes less than one minute and does not require volunteers to create an account or password.

The flood relief distribution center is located at 284 Market Place Mall in Weston, inside the former Kroger building to the right of Dollar Tree.
Donation drop-offs and supply pickup will be available from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. daily through Friday, Aug. 7. Hours after Aug. 7 will be announced later.
The center is accepting donations and making supplies available to Lewis and Upshur County families in need.
Because supplies are arriving and being distributed quickly, organizers said they are unable to confirm whether specific items are available or reserve items for individuals.
The most-needed donations include dehumidifiers, box fans, laundry pods, antibacterial hand soap, tampons, squeegees, yard rakes, new gas cans, heavy-duty extension cords, MERV 13 or higher air filters and non-liquid cleaners such as Comet.
The air filters are being used with box fans to create temporary mold-control filtration systems.
Organizers said the center is currently well stocked with bottled water, bleach, hand sanitizer, individual canned food items, toilet paper and paper towels.
Clothing, perishable food, used items and medications are not being accepted.
The Lewis County Family Resource Network and food pantry will continue operating during normal hours with limited staff as employees also assist with the ongoing flood response.
