School Bus Fire Temporarily Shuts Down I-79 Southbound in Bridgeport
BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Traffic on Interstate 79 southbound was temporarily shut down Wednesday afternoon after a Harrison County school bus caught fire near the Jerry Dove Drive exit in Bridgeport.
Motorists were diverted off the interstate at Exit 124 before being routed back onto I-79 while firefighters worked to extinguish the blaze and clear the roadway. Southbound traffic reopened shortly after 4:15 p.m.
According to other media reports, no children were on board the bus, the driver safely exited the vehicle and no injuries were reported.
Photos from the scene show the heaviest fire damage appears to be concentrated near the rear passenger-side section of the bus. The cause of the fire has not been released.
Bridgeport Fire Department, Bridgeport Police Department and the Harrison County Sheriff's Office responded to the incident.
