Robert C. Byrd Baseball Advances to State Tournament After Regional Win Over Hampshire

CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The postseason journey continues for Robert C. Byrd High School after the Flying Eagles secured a trip to the West Virginia State Baseball Tournament with a 5 to 4 victory over Hampshire on Tuesday afternoon at Frank Loria Field.

The regional championship series turned into one of the more memorable postseason matchups in the area, stretching across Memorial Day weekend and featuring multiple weather delays and schedule adjustments before finally reaching a deciding game. The series had originally been pushed back and resumed after rain interruptions before the final contest was completed Tuesday afternoon.

Robert C. Byrd battled through the extended schedule and delivered when it mattered most, earning the regional title and punching its ticket to Charleston with the one run victory.

For the Flying Eagles, the win keeps the season alive and sends the program back to compete for a state championship as one of West Virginia’s final teams standing.
