Pothole Repair Efforts Cause Delays on I-79 and Route 50 in Harrison County

HARRISON COUNTY, W.Va. — Drivers traveling through Harrison County experienced significant delays Friday as crews with the West Virginia Division of Highways spent much of the day repairing potholes along Interstate 79.

Traffic backups were reported throughout the day, particularly near the Interstate 79 and Route 50 interchange in Clarksburg, where construction activity slowed traffic on both roadways. During the morning hours, congestion extended for more than a mile in some areas as motorists navigated work zones and lane restrictions.

Later in the day, the Division of Highways implemented rolling roadblocks on I-79 Southbound beginning near the 121 mile marker and continuing toward Clarksburg. The rolling roadblocks allowed crews to safely repair and replace potholes along the interstate while maintaining traffic flow through the work area.

The maintenance work resulted in periodic stops, reduced speeds, and slow-moving traffic throughout the afternoon. Drivers traveling through the corridor were encouraged to allow extra travel time and use caution while passing through active work zones.

While the repairs created temporary delays, the work is aimed at improving road conditions and addressing damage that can impact both safety and vehicle maintenance costs for motorists.
