PHOTO GALLERY: More Than 50 Photos from the 2026 Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — The 16th annual Derek Hotsinpiller Fallen Stars 5K was held earlier this month at Bridgeport City Park, bringing together runners, walkers, law enforcement officers, families, volunteers and spectators for one of North Central West Virginia’s largest annual community races.

The event is held each year in memory of Deputy U.S. Marshal Derek Hotsinpiller, a Bridgeport native who was killed in the line of duty on Feb. 16, 2011, while serving a warrant in Elkins.

The race honors law enforcement officers across the country who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Proceeds from the event support the foundation’s work, including scholarships for those pursuing or advancing law enforcement careers, assistance for local law enforcement agencies, and support for injured officers and their families.
