McAfee, Rodriguez Join Thousands in Singing 'Country Roads' After WVU Super Regional Win
MORGANTOWN, W.Va. — WVU alumnus Pat McAfee and Mountaineer head football coach Rich Rodriguez joined thousands of fans in a postgame rendition of “Take Me Home, Country Roads” following West Virginia’s victory over Cal Poly in Game 1 of the NCAA Super Regional at Kendrick Family Ballpark.
The celebration came after the Mountaineers moved one step closer to a berth in the College World Series, with fans remaining in the stands long after the final out to celebrate one of the biggest wins in program history.
With a trip to Omaha on the line, the atmosphere in Morgantown reflected the excitement surrounding a WVU baseball team that had already put together one of the most successful seasons the program has ever seen. McAfee and Rodriguez helped lead the crowd in the traditional sing-along, creating a memorable moment as “Country Roads” echoed throughout the ballpark.
The Mountaineers entered the weekend needing two wins against Cal Poly to secure the program’s first-ever trip to the College World Series. Game 1's victory put West Virginia within one win of making history.
