Historic Waldomore Highlights "The Citizen Soldier" Exhibit During America 250 Celebration

As communities across West Virginia commemorate America's 250th anniversary, Historic Waldomore in Clarksburg is inviting residents to take a closer look at the sacrifices and stories of those who served our nation through a new month-long exhibit, "The Citizen Soldier."

Open throughout July, the exhibit focuses on the local men and women whose military service helped preserve the freedoms celebrated during the nation's semiquincentennial. Rather than telling history through distant events, the display highlights the experiences of veterans from North Central West Virginia through personal artifacts, documents, and recorded oral histories.

Visitors will find a collection of historical items, including a Civil War cannonball, a 48-star American flag, authentic World War II war ration cards, period newspapers, and audio and video presentations featuring local veterans sharing their own experiences in uniform. The exhibit offers a unique opportunity to connect with the people and stories that helped shape both the local community and the nation.

The exhibit was made possible through the generous support of the Friends of the Library, with blinds funded by proceeds from the Friends of the Library Book Sale. Visitors can also enjoy custom window seat cushions handcrafted by Carol Belknap, adding another local touch to the historic space.

The exhibit is on display throughout July at Historic Waldomore, 404 West Pike Street in Clarksburg. Historic Waldomore is open Monday through Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m., giving residents and visitors plenty of opportunities to experience this unique look at local military history during America's 250th anniversary celebration.
