Harrison County to Celebrate America's 250th Anniversary with Fireworks Event
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — Residents from across Harrison County are invited to celebrate America's 250th anniversary during a community fireworks event planned for Thursday, July 2, at Sunset Ellis Park.
Hosted by Harrison County Parks & Recreation and the Harrison County Commission, the free event will take place at Sunset Ellis Park, the former Sunset Ellis Drive-In property, with gates opening at 8 p.m. Fireworks will begin at dusk.
Organizers are encouraging families to bring lawn chairs, gather with friends and neighbors, and enjoy an evening celebrating the nation's semiquincentennial, marking 250 years since the signing of the Declaration of Independence in 1776.
In addition to the fireworks display, free water, popcorn and special treats for children will be available while supplies last.
The event is one of several celebrations taking place across West Virginia and the nation as communities begin commemorating America's 250th anniversary ahead of the official milestone in 2026.
Sunset Ellis Park is located along U.S. Route 50 east of Clarksburg and provides ample space for families to enjoy the fireworks display in a community setting.
Admission is free.
