Former Harrison County Commissioner Bernie Fazzini Dies at 79
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. – Bernard “Bernie” Fazzini Sr., a longtime Harrison County public servant whose career stretched from the Clarksburg Fire Department to county government and eventually to representing West Virginia counties on the national level, has died at the age of 79.
Fazzini died Tuesday, Sept. 29, at J.W. Ruby Memorial Hospital. A lifelong Clarksburg resident, he spent decades serving the community where he was born and raised.
His public service career included 21 years with the Clarksburg Fire Department, where he served as a firefighter and fire inspector before retiring in 2000. He later served 12 years on the Harrison County Commission, including time as president of the Commission.
During his years in county government, Fazzini helped lead Harrison County through a period of significant growth and investment, with a focus on public safety, infrastructure, economic development and improving county services.
His work extended well beyond Harrison County.
Fazzini represented West Virginia counties on the Board of Directors of the National Association of Counties, giving Harrison County and West Virginia a voice alongside county government leaders from across the United States.
He also remained involved in statewide discussions surrounding local government and public safety, drawing on both his experience in county leadership and his decades in the fire service.
Away from elected office, Fazzini was active in the Clarksburg community through organizations including the Adamston Lions Club, Columbian Club and Elks Club.
Taken together, Fazzini’s career represented more than three decades of public service, first protecting the people of Clarksburg, then helping lead Harrison County government and ultimately representing West Virginia in conversations at the national level.
Fazzini is survived by his wife, Cynthia Sue Bolyard Fazzini, five children, grandchildren and a large extended family. His wishes for cremation have been honored.
Additional information about Fazzini’s life, family and service arrangements is available in his complete obituary from Davis Funeral Home.
