FBI Director Kash Patel, U.S. Attorney Matthew Harvey Announce Major Drug Trafficking Takedown in Martinsburg

MARTINSBURG, W.Va. — FBI Director Kash Patel joined U.S. Attorney Matthew Harvey and a coalition of federal, state, and local law enforcement leaders in Martinsburg on Tuesday to announce the disruption of two multi-state drug trafficking organizations accused of operating in West Virginia and Maryland.

According to federal authorities, the investigation resulted in 13 arrests and charges against 19 individuals allegedly involved in large-scale cocaine and cocaine base distribution throughout the region.

Officials said the organizations operated over a period of approximately two years and were connected to multiple residences used to store and distribute narcotics. Investigators also allege members of the organizations possessed firearms and handled significant amounts of cash generated through drug trafficking activities.

During a press conference in Martinsburg, Patel praised the extensive collaboration between law enforcement agencies that led to the arrests.

“Together, we were able to collect evidence, execute search warrants and safeguard our communities,” Patel said. “We took no shortcuts.”

Harvey said the operation reflects the impact of coordinated efforts among law enforcement agencies working across state lines.

“Thanks to the tireless, coordinated work of law enforcement across multiple states, our communities are now safer,” Harvey said. “Our focus now turns to ensuring these individuals are held fully accountable for the harm they caused.”

Federal prosecutors allege one of the organizations operated primarily between Maryland and West Virginia, distributing cocaine and cocaine base throughout Berkeley and Jefferson counties. A second organization is accused of distributing cocaine and cocaine base in and around Jefferson County.

Authorities said searches conducted during the investigation led to the seizure of cocaine, cash and luxury items believed to have been purchased with drug proceeds.

The investigation involved the FBI, Homeland Security Investigations, West Virginia State Police, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives, local law enforcement agencies in West Virginia and Maryland, and numerous additional federal partners.

Officials said the operation was conducted as part of the Homeland Security Task Force initiative, a federal effort focused on disrupting drug trafficking networks, transnational criminal organizations and other criminal enterprises operating across state lines.

Several defendants remain at large, according to federal authorities.
