Fairmont Farmers Market Opens Summer Season with Strong Community Support
FAIRMONT, W.Va. — The Fairmont Farmers Market officially opened for the 2026 season this week, bringing local vendors, fresh products, and community spirit back to downtown Fairmont.
Held on Merchant Street, the market welcomed residents for its first event of the summer and showcased the community collaboration that continues to make the market a popular destination for shoppers and local entrepreneurs alike.
The Marion County Chamber of Commerce joined organizers for a ribbon-cutting ceremony to celebrate the start of the new season, while volunteers and market supporters helped ensure a successful opening day.
Organizers described the kickoff as an “amazing” start to the season and thanked the many volunteers who stepped up to help keep the market thriving.
“This is what community collaboration and growth looks like in action,” organizers shared following the event. “A huge thanks to all the volunteers who stood up and took on the task of keeping this market going.”
In the days leading up to opening day, volunteers worked to prepare Merchant Street for vendors and visitors, putting the finishing touches on what would become a well attended first market of the season.
The Fairmont Farmers Market provides an opportunity for local farmers, food producers, artisans, and small business owners to connect directly with customers while showcasing products made and grown throughout the region.
Market organizers said they were encouraged by the turnout and community support shown during the opening event.
The Fairmont Farmers Market will continue every Tuesday throughout the summer from 4 p.m. to 7 p.m. on Merchant Street in downtown Fairmont. Organizers encourage residents to follow the market’s social media pages for updates on vendors, special events, and weekly offerings.
As another market season gets underway, opening day served as a reminder of the important role local markets play in supporting small businesses, strengthening community connections, and promoting local entrepreneurship across Marion County.
