Clarksburg Police Claim First Battle of the Badges Title Before Crowd of More Than 200
CLARKSBURG, W.Va. — The Clarksburg Police Department captured bragging rights in the inaugural Battle of the Badges Softball Game, defeating the Clarksburg Firefighters IAFF Local 89 during a community event that drew more than 200 spectators.
Held as a friendly competition between two of the city's public safety agencies, the game brought together police officers, firefighters and residents for an evening of community engagement and hometown pride.
According to the City of Clarksburg, the contest was competitive from start to finish, with both departments representing the city through sportsmanship, teamwork and a little friendly rivalry.
While the Clarksburg Police Department earned the first Battle of the Badges title, city officials said the real winners were the community members who came out to support the event and the public servants who participated.
City leaders credited the large turnout and enthusiastic crowd for helping make the inaugural event a success. More than 200 residents attended the game, creating an atmosphere organizers hope will become a staple of the summer calendar.
Following the positive response from players and spectators alike, city officials announced plans to continue Battle of the Badges as an annual event.
The City of Clarksburg thanked the police officers, firefighters, volunteers, sponsors and community members who helped make the event possible and expressed excitement about growing the event in the years ahead.
If the first year was any indication, Battle of the Badges may have already found its place among Clarksburg's summer traditions.
