Bridgeport Native Mason Williams Captures First West Virginia Open Championship

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Bridgeport native Mason Williams added another major accomplishment to his golf career Friday, capturing the first West Virginia Open championship of his career at The Resort at Glade Springs.

Williams entered the final round one stroke behind Ryan Bilby before shooting a 4-under-par 68 on the Stonehaven Course. His closing round included seven birdies and moved him to 10-under 206 for the tournament, securing a three-stroke victory.

Williams finished the three-day championship with rounds of 70, 68 and 68. Bilby placed second at 7-under 209.

The victory reversed the outcome of the 2023 West Virginia Open, when Williams and Bilby entered the final round tied for the lead before Bilby earned a two-stroke victory.

Williams is a graduate of Bridgeport High School, where he won individual state championships in 2015 and 2017. He later played collegiately at Georgia Southern University and captured the West Virginia Amateur championship in 2019 at age 19.

Williams turned professional in 2024 and currently competes on PGA TOUR Americas.

The West Virginia Open victory gives Williams championships in two of the state’s premier golf events and marks the latest achievement in a career that began on the courses of North Central West Virginia.
