Birdie Bash Tops $20,000 Goal, Raises More Than $23,000 for United Way

BRIDGEPORT, W.Va. — Sixteen local golfers battled the clock, the course and some uncooperative weather Tuesday to raise more than $23,000 for the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties.

The 2026 Birdie Bash was held Aug. 11 at Bridgeport Country Club, with eight two-person teams taking part in a marathon-style day of golf designed to raise money for United Way partner agencies serving the two-county area.

Organizers entered the event with a goal of raising $20,000. The golfers and their supporters had already pushed the total beyond that mark before a late donation moved the final fundraising total above $23,000.

Rain and lightning interrupted play during the day and kept the golfers from completing the full schedule originally planned, but the competition continued once conditions allowed.

Jeff Hill and Michael Johnson finished as the winning golf team.

Josh Gervais and Darin Webster earned the top fundraising honor after raising $3,760 for United Way.

This year’s field included Christian Marsh and Nat Frederick; Chuck Marsh and Ben Scroggins; Chris Goode and Scott Griffiths; Jeff Hill and Michael Johnson; Martin Howe and Doug Comer; Eric Moccia and Benji Riley; Jimmy Stemple and John Stemple; and Josh Gervais and Darin Webster.

Birdie Bash combines a day of competitive golf with individual and team fundraising, with participants gathering support from donors throughout the community.

Money raised through the event supports the United Way of Harrison and Doddridge Counties and its partner agencies, which provide services and programs for residents throughout the two counties.

Despite the weather interruption, this year’s Birdie Bash finished more than $3,000 above its original fundraising goal and delivered another successful fundraiser for the local United Way.
